  • Why an IHSA certificate is essential for a hydrogen generator

Molecular hydrogen has become very popular and you can tell.   Just take a look on Google or Amazon and you will see many different portable hydrogen generators. Some of them are priced for as little as forty euros. And for an extra hundred euros you can get one that promises to produce the highest number of ppm (parts per million) hydrogen on the market.  That may sound like an attractive way to support your health, but it is crucial to do good research, because it's the cheaply produced devices in this product category that can pose a risk to your health. Technology of a molecular hydrogen device There is a lot involved in producing a high-quality hydrogen generator. Before you decide to purchase a hydrogen product, it is important to have at least a basic understanding of the technology, the importance of good material selection and the hydrogen production process. These are two of the most important things to pay attention to: Electrolysis process Electrolysis is the process used to produce molecular hydrogen water. It involves breaking down water into its elementary components hydrogen gas and oxygen gas using electric current. Electrolysis is a messy process, because in addition to the formation of hydrogen gas and oxygen gas, the production leads to unwanted by-products such as chlorine and ozone. To ensure a clean, safe and effective process and to guarantee the production of pure hydrogen-rich water without the presence of unwanted by-products, the use of high-quality electrodes and membranes together with the correct voltage are extremely important. In this video you can see how two different hydrogen water bottles are tested for harmful substances released during the production process. Please note that this video is solely meant for educational purposes. We do not carry this hydrogen water bottle brand, but we highly respect and acknowledge the two inventors of this technology, who are no longer with the company mentioned in the video. In addition, it is also important that the pH (acidity) of the water remains unchanged during the electrolysis process. Hydrogen retention Molecular hydrogen is the smallest molecule in the world, a light gas and evaporates very quickly. It requires a lot of knowledge to develop a hydrogen technology that, in addition to producing the right ratio of bioavailable hydrogen, is able to retain it long enough so that its consumption is actually effective. IHSA certificate for hydrogen generators To ensure that there is an international quality standard so that you can be assured that the hydrogen water that you drink is not only safe, but actually produces the hydrogen that it promises, products can get certified according to the standards of the International Hydrogen Standards Association .  This guarentees that a product meets IHSA's strict requirements. Many hydrogen generators on the market don't have this certificate. All of the hydrogen water bottles on our website are IHSA certified. This is how you know that you have the best quality in your hands.

  • The impact of molecular hydrogen on aging

Aging is the result of a combination of environmental, genetic and epigenetic factors. When this process is out of balance, our susceptibility to disease increases. Aging is a natural part of our life cycle and is essentially a beautiful thing when it occurs in a balanced way. And this is possible, because we have a lot of influence on how we age. Molecular hydrogen may play a significant role in this aging process. Oxidative stress Oxidative stress is caused by free radicals, excess ROS (reactive oxygen species) and mitochondrial aging that lead to DNA damage and accelerated aging. Study 1 Study 2 Senescent cells Senescent cells are cells that have lost the ability to multiply and are at the end of their cycle, but remain in our body. They release chemicals that deplete our stem cells and contribute to chronic inflammation. Study 1 Study 2 Inflammation Chronic inflammation leads to tissue degeneration and accelerated aging. Nowadays chronic inflammatory diseases are the most significant cause of death in the world, with more than 50% of all deaths attributable to diseases related to inflammation. Study NAD+ levels NAD+ is a coenzyme that is involved in metabolic processes and its decline contributes to aging and age-related diseases. Study Telomerase activity Telomeres protect the integrity of our DNA. Each time a cell divides (and with age), the telomere gets shorter. Eventually, the cell becomes so short that it can no longer divide and the cell dies. Study Nrf2 Nrf2 regulates genes that combat oxidative stress and its decline allows oxidative stress to stimulate aging. Nrf2 activation also decreases with age. Study 1   Study 2 THE IMPACT OF MOLECULAR HYDROGEN ON AGING With the growing knowledge we have about longevity, we have the opportunity to redefine the way we age. In a natural, holistic and scientifically aligned way. Molecular hydrogen plays a promising role in this and can help slow the aging process in several ways: Reduction of oxidative stress Molecular hydrogen has anti-inflammatory properties and can reduce oxidative stress. Study 1   Study 2 Reduction of DNA damage Molecular hydrogen has the ability to reduce DNA damage and prevent premature cellular aging. Study Maintenance of NAD+ levels Molecular hydrogen helps protect cells against damage that leads to a decrease in NAD+ levels and maintains sirtuin activity: longevity genes that help repair DNA. This can modify the cellular stress response and promote the maintenance of tissue homeostasis. Study Telomerase optimization Molecular hydrogen can increase telomerase activity and protect telomeres from degradation. Study 1 Study 2 Nrf2 pathway activation Research shows that “molecular hydrogen has long-lasting antioxidant and anti-aging effects on vascular endothelial cells through the Nrf2 pathway, even after transient exposure to H2.” This suggests that “hydrogen-rich water could be a functional drink that increases longevity.” Study FROM INNER VITALITY TO RADIANT SKIN The effects of molecular hydrogen water on cellular and skin health are very interesting. Drinking it and applying it topically to the skin amplifies its impact on aging. Rapid absorption Taking a hydrogen-rich water bath allows hydrogen molecules to quickly penetrate the skin and be absorbed into the bloodstream. Study Enhanced skin appearance Hydrogen-rich water baths improve skin appearance in people with various ROS-related diseases. Water baths with molecular hydrogen have beneficial effects on the antioxidant capacity, inflammation and general appearance of the skin. Study   Blemish reduction Hydrogen-rich water baths help lighten and reduce the size of dark spots on the skin, improving both the quality and appearance of the skin: “The wide-ranging, dense, and irregularly shaped skin blotches became markedly smaller and thinner, assumedly through reductive bleaching of melanin and lipofuscin and promotion of dermal cell renewal by the hydrogen-rich warm water.” Study Wrinkle reduction Clinical studies have shown the link between wrinkle reduction and the use of hydrogen-rich water. Molecular hydrogen water may serve as daily skin care to reduce UVA-induced skin damage by eliminating ROS and promoting type I collagen synthesis in the skin. Study CONCLUSION Although aging is inevitable, molecular hydrogen offers promising benefits in slowing the aging process by targeting several factors that contribute to aging and alleviating its challenges.

  • Molecular hydrogen in sports and athletic performance

Scientific research gives insight into what drinking water enriched with molecular hydrogen can do for athletes and anyone engaged in sports. Studies have shown that drinking molecular hydrogen water can significantly optimize sports performance*, as it acts as an effective hydration strategy and lowers blood lactate levels, reducing muscle fatigue. Water rich in molecular hydrogen also helps accelerate recovery after intense exercise and reduces inflammation. * This applies to both aerobic (longer training duration, light impact, burning of fats and carbohydrates with oxygen) and anaerobic (short training duration such as sprints, high impact, burning of carbohydrates without oxygen) performance. In addition to its benefits for muscles, molecular hydrogen supports energy levels by optimizing cellular function and ATP production, which contributes to mental alertness. Molecular hydrogen also plays a role in maintaining cognitive function under stress including mental clarity and focus, which is essential for athletic performance. The benefits of molecular hydrogen for sports and athletes supported by scientific research demonstrate its potential as a valuable aid in sports and physical exercise. MOLECULAR HYDROGEN FOR SPORTS AND ATHLETES: IMPROVED PERFORMANCE AND ENDURANCE This study tested the effects of hydrogen-rich water on muscle fatigue caused by acute exercise in elite athletes and they concluded that “adequate hydration with hydrogen-rich water pre-exercise reduced blood lactate levels and improved exercise-induced decline of muscle function ”. This means athletes might be able to perform stronger for longer during physical activities, preventing muscle fatigue and helping maintain muscle function. Study The consumption of hydrogen-rich water before exercise is associated with an increased ability to reduce fatigue , especially during the later stages of repeated sprint exercise. Study This study showed that acute pre-exercise supplementation with hydrogen-rich water reduced blood lactate at higher exercise intensities, improved exercise-induced perception of effort, and ventilatory efficiency . Study A study involving healthy subjects using a graded treadmill exercise test to exhaustion found that acute supplementation with molecular hydrogen " significantly reduces exercising heart rate at submaximal intensities ." This shows that "hydrogen rich water could be a viable option as an ergogenic aid for athletes seeking to improve aerobic exercise performance ", highlighting its high safety profile. Study Research involving cyclists showed that those who consumed hydrogen-rich water maintained peak power output during repetitive sprints, also suggesting improved endurance . Study Intensive training increases the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in skeletal muscle - oxidative stress - leading to tissue damage and fatigue. The antioxidant-like effects of molecular hydrogen can help mitigate oxidative stress in muscle cells , contributing to reduced muscle fatigue and improved endurance . Study The findings of another study have illustrated that “drinking hydrogen water contributed to the maintenance of the redox status (reduction of oxidation) during consecutive days of strenuous exercise and might help prevent accumulative muscular fatigue .” Study These studies showed that the continuous supplementation of hydrogen water has the potential to improve both aerobic and anaerobic performance , proving to be an effective hydration strategy. Study 1      Study 2 An additional method through which H2 could potentially enhance endurance is by activating energy metabolism, supplying steady energy prior to, following, or amid exercise - it has the potential to boost the cell's capacity to sustain or generate additional energy. Study IMPROVED RECOVERY AND REDUCTION OF INFLAMMATION Another study showed that hydrogen rich water is of great promise to help accelerate the recovery from high-intensity exercise and to benefit the functional performance of rowing in elite dragon boat athletes, which is beneficial for them to increase power output, gain an advantage in the final sprint stage and reduce physical damage from accumulated fatigue. Study Athletes often experience post-exercise muscle soreness and inflammation. Molecular hydrogen appears to be effective in managing inflammation by addressing oxidative stress, regulating cytokines and preventing excessive inflammatory responses: molecular hydrogen water appears to reduce oxidative stress in cells, potentially leading to less stimulation of pathways that may increase inflammation. Studies suggest that molecular hydrogen water may help the body produce fewer pro-inflammatory cytokines (enzymes that are believed to increase inflammation) by possibly influencing various cellular pathways and mechanisms. It seems that molecular hydrogen water promotes the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines, enzymes that help fight inflammation within the body. Molecular hydrogen water might help inhibit inflammatory cell infiltration and the production of chemokines, potentially suppressing various immune and inflammatory responses. Study 1   Study 2 The anti-inflammatory properties of molecular hydrogen water might aid in faster recovery by reducing inflammation and muscle discomfort. Molecular hydrogen water can potentially decrease the overall stress on the body during and after exercise . Study Recovery is vital for athletes and molecular hydrogen water has been found to aid in the treatment of sports-related soft tissue injuries, resulting in a faster return to normal joint range of motion . Study Tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissues are vulnerable to injury, especially in high-impact sports. Molecular hydrogen, with its antioxidant-like and anti-inflammatory effects, not only supports the health and integrity of these tissues, reducing the risk of strains or tears, but also aids in their recovery when injuries occur . Study INCREASED ENERGY Molecular hydrogen can combat fatigue beyond the muscular level. Its ability to support cellular function and maintain homeostasis may contribute to reduced fatigue by ensuring that cells operate optimally. Fatigue, particularly when chronic or persistent, can be linked to oxidative stress and inflammation within the body. As previously noted, molecular hydrogen exhibits antioxidant-like effects and anti-inflammatory properties, which have the potential to decrease levels of fatigue and alleviate symptoms associated with fatigue. Energy in our bodies is driven by a molecule called ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate), known as the energy currency of the cell. When ATP is broken down, energy is released, driving various cellular activities. A study stated that “ATP levels directly reflect mitochondrial activity and several reports have suggested that hydrogen can protect the mitochondria from damage. ” Study Another study shows that “molecular hydrogen may also be producing a hydrogen gradient, thus promoting mitochondrial ATP production independent of electron transport chain activity.” Study HYDRATATION SUPPORT Maintaining proper hydration is essential for athletic performance, especially since high-intensity exercise and extended physical activity can result in dehydration and imbalances in electrolytes. Scientific literature shows that molecular hydrogen can improve or enhance cellular hydration when there is a deficit by acting on aquaporin activity or expression but cannot increase cellular hydration above what is optimal for a cell. Study STRESS MANAGEMENT & MENTAL FOCUS Exercise-induced inflammation can result in feelings of fatigue and mental fog, further affecting concentration and performance. Balancing all these factors is essential for achieving optimal results in any athletic context. Improved hydration and reduced oxidative stress might positively impact mental clarity and focus during training and competition. Studies indicate that molecular hydrogen water helps maintain cognitive function under stress , which is crucial for athletes, potentially leading to improved mental clarity . These results suggest that hydrogen rich water may be effective for reducing accumulated oxidative stress in the brain in daily life . Additionally molecular hydrogen water contributes to the maintenance of central nervous system activity. Study Molecular hydrogen also appears to improve mental alertness , potentially offering a safe and effective alternative to caffeine for sleep-deprived individuals: “The attention enhancement driven by water that is rich in molecular hydrogen appears along with changes in brain metabolism. Being generally recognized as a safe intervention, hydrogen could be thus recommended as a novel intervention that upholds attention in stressed conditions, with its metabolic footprint likely different from caffeine.” Study CONCLUSION Drinking water rich in molecular hydrogen is a simple and effective way to promote recovery, reduce exercise-induced oxidative stress and sports injuries with the potential for improving exercise performance . This makes molecular hydrogen a promising form of hydration for athletes and in sports in general with a high safety profile and potential as a tool to improve athletic performance. Study
